Victoria Local Council secures region of Gozo application to the European Regions for Youth (ERY) Network.
Victoria Gozo has been formally accepted as a full member of the ERY Network paving the way for future EU funded projects involving young people from Victoria and the island of Gozo. The application was filed and advocated by Victoria Mayor Dr Samuel Azzopardi during ERY’s last AGM which commenced on the 29th of July 2009 at the Atlantic College in Wales. The application was formally accepted at the closing session of the AGM on the 31st of July 2009.
The ERY Network is composed of European Regions linked by the aim of building EU youth policies that can facilitate a better future for the new generations through education, research and a lot of concrete opportunities. It started on the initiative taken by the Emiglia-Romagna Region and took the present form after an agreement on youth policies was signed in March 2006 in Brussels beetween 10 regions: Aquitaine (France), Aragón (Spain), Dolnyslask (Poland), Emilglia-Romagna (Italy), Hessen (Germany), Pays de la Loire (France), Generalitat Valenciana (Spain), Västra Götaland (Sweden), Wales (United Kingdom), Wielkopolska (Poland). Malta has been for some time an associate member and representatives of the EUPA participated in some of the meetings of the network. The delegation from Victoria included Councillor Josef Schembri, Gerard Abela, David Borg, and Renzo Galea. The activities within the ERY Network will be co-ordinated by the Victoria Youth Empowerment Centre.
